Ticketing letters proved timely Toronto Star

These letters were timely and provided foreshadowing for me.
On the same day at 4:30, I watched a trio of cops, working in unison, flag down cars making a right-hand turn on to St. Paul's Square from Bloor St. E. This was not a regular weekday where traffic flow could be a problem.
They casually looked at the licence, ownership and insurance certificate of each driver and moved from car to car issuing $110 tickets that entail the loss of two demerit points. Their goal was to write as many tickets as they could in the shortest possible time. No verification of the driver's licence, vehicular or insurance information through the cruiser's computer.
As long as the police use these tactics to produce revenue for both the city and themselves, then the old adage, "Not only must justice be done; it must also be seen to be done," will be viewed as just a worn-out, hackneyed phrase by an ever more skeptical public.
