The police helicopter helped to send banned motorcyclist Christopher O’Donovan to prison.
O’Donovan, then 44, from Devizes, led police on a chase where he drove at speeds over 130mph.
PC Nigel Gilbert was the police observer onboard the helicopter when it took over the pursuit from colleagues on the ground on the morning of December 15, 2007.
He said: “We have been involved in high speed pursuits on the M4 but this was probably one of the fastest pursuits on back roads.”
O’Donovan was pursued for 23 miles from Beckhampton on the A361 on to the A4 at Cherhill to Calne, on the A3102 at Mile Elm to Caen Hill and back to his home in Victoria Road, Devizes.
PC Gilbert said: “When we scrambled the traffic car was some distance back from the suspect.
“A police car tried to block the suspect in the Caen Hill car park at Rowde but didn’t succeed and we followed him back to his home.
“If we hadn’t been flying then he would have evaded capture.”
