Attorney: Taxi Cab In Crash Uninsured WJXT Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Caliemarie Mauldin was in an American Pride Taxi cab in February when it crashed into the back of another car.

"The taxi driver I was with, she was on a cell phone, playing, talking and laughing, and slammed on the brakes," Mauldin said. "I was hurting pretty bad."

Mauldin said she always had back problems, but the accident made them worse. To add to it, her doctor's bill from the accident was close to $3,000.

But there's a bigger problem. Mauldin's attorney said the cab Mauldin was in was not covered by insurance at the time of wreck, which is required by the city.

"She is going to a doctor who is working with her to treat her injuries, but apparently there is no insurance company with the cab," attorney Kevin Sanders said.

Sanders points to a letter that he received from an insurance company that said the vehicle involved was not listed on the insurance policy.
