If you are a Vietnam veteran (served in country) and have developed diabetes or cancer, you might be eligible for VA medical care and compensation benefits. If you are a widow or widower of a Vietnam veteran who died from these conditions, you might be eligible for VA benefits.
There is a lengthy list of cancers that might be related to exposure to Agent Orange or other chemicals. Representatives from The Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States are available to assist veterans and their dependents with benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs. The VFW has representatives throughout the state.
There is now a representative available once a month at the VFW Post 821, at 1408 W. Front St., Berwick, on the first Tuesday of each month, and at the Vet Center, 1002 Pittston Ave., Scranton, on the fourth Tuesday of the month. The hours are from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at both locations.
This free service is available to all veterans and their dependents; membership in the VFW is not required.
